Diathermy

A quick, minor procedure to remove a range of common, benign skin lesions. Most take only a few minutes, and any pigmented lesion is reviewed by a UK consultant dermatologist before we go anywhere near it.

Goodbye skin tags, thread veins & milia…

Skin tags, milia, thread veins and age spots are rarely a medical problem, but they can be a daily irritation — catching on clothing, sitting somewhere you would rather they did not, or simply becoming the thing you notice every time you look in the mirror.

Diathermy deals with them quickly. A fine probe delivers controlled electrical energy and heat directly to the lesion, breaking it down so the skin can heal. Most lesions take only a few minutes, and the majority of patients are surprised how straightforward the whole thing is.

What matters just as much is knowing what should not be treated this way. Diathermy destroys the tissue it treats, which means nothing can be sent to a laboratory afterwards — so anything pigmented goes through a proper screening process first, and we will always tell you honestly if something needs a different route altogether.

Before we can accept your booking

Please send a photograph of the area to kirsty@thearterclinic.co.uk, or by WhatsApp to 07949 638253. A photograph helps us assess suitability and give you a quote. It is not a diagnosis, and the final decision is always made in person on the day. Price depends on the size, number and complexity of the lesions, and we will always quote you before you book.

Pigmented lesions and moles — mandatory screening

Diathermy destroys the tissue it treats, so nothing can be sent to a laboratory for testing afterwards. Any pigmented lesion must therefore be screened first, through

Map My Mole

We take dermatoscope images in clinic, and a UK consultant dermatologist reviews them, usually within 48 hours. This is a not-for-profit service, included with your diathermy treatment, and it is mandatory before we remove any mole or pigmented lesion.

Diathermy FAQ's

Does it hurt?

Most patients find it very manageable. It is a quick procedure — most lesions take only a few minutes — and we will talk you through exactly what to expect before we begin.

Why do I have to send a photograph before booking?

Because not every lesion is suitable for diathermy, and it would not be fair to have you travel to us for an appointment we cannot go ahead with. A photograph lets us assess suitability in advance and give you an accurate quote. The final decision is always made in person on the day.

Why can't you just remove my mole?

Because diathermy destroys the tissue it treats, nothing can be sent to a laboratory for testing afterwards. That means any pigmented lesion needs to be properly assessed before it is removed, not after. We take dermatoscope images in clinic and a UK consultant dermatologist reviews them, usually within 48 hours, and that screening is included with your treatment.

How much does it cost?

Price depends on the size, number and complexity of the lesions being treated, and we will always give you a quote before you book. Send us a photograph and we will come back to you.

Do you have any spread the cost payment plans?

Yes, we offer Go Cardless (where you can add a payment amount of your choosing every month, to then use against any products or treatments in clinic). It can be cancelled at anytime. Additionally, we offer Klarna to pre pay or use at checkout, which splits your payment into x 3 payments, over 3 months, interest free. Please set up your Klarna account prior to your clinic visit. Payments are non-refundable. Funds must be available in your pot before use.
